Posted May 26 2006: Highway 140 open to one-way traffic only. Use Highway 41 instead

Due to recent rock slides in the area near the west enterance of Yosemite National Park California State Highway 140 has been frequently closed to traffic into the park. Officials are warning Yosemite park visitors to avoid Highway 140 and to expect delays.Highway 140 has only been temporarily opened at times for one-way traffic only. As of recent reports within the last 48 hours, Highway 140 is now closed again due to another rock slide.

Use Highway 41 as a reliable alternate. The surest way to reach the park is via the south entrance, using Highway 41.Vacation travelers going east into the park for the Memorial Day holiday weekend should be advised to use to Highway 41, by detouring to Highway 49 south to reach Highway 41 in Oakhurst..
